tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5196447065691555971.post5935150862346847905..comments2023-10-31T09:17:16.502-07:00Comments on Philosemitism: The call to boycott Jewish commerce is Europe’s oldest political appeal, Denis MacShanePhilosemitehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05738171878498147967noreply@blogger.comBlogger1125tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5196447065691555971.post-47531605927195354622011-04-05T19:09:17.947-07:002011-04-05T19:09:17.947-07:00As an educated and socially conscious American, I ...As an educated and socially conscious American, I often have a tendency to proffer the perspective of anti-zionist or anti-colonialist (as it relates to Israel and their involvement in the region); however, much of this has to do with the total imbalance of the United States' foreign policy on middle-eastern issues.<br />As to Europe, there is certainly a much darker and indeed, also imbalanced, past that relates to Judaism; and their place in the world.<br />Although In cannot change the past of the United States (as the United Nations record - as well as our military history - shows rather clearly, it has been FAR more favorable to Israel than to ANY Islamic nation - with the possible exceptions of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Turkey), I can certainly protest the ongoing occupations of the West Bank and Gaza Strip - and also support the most nominal efforts to change our involvement in these modern-day atrocities: including, boycotts and divestments, where they are due.<br />The reality, however, is that without the support of the US government, no Israeli occupation or colonization would be possible; and to that end, my nation's leadership is equally at fault.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
